Renewing Roots: Our Future Home in São Mamede Valley

In a magical valley nestled within the São Mamede Natural Park, we found our dream—a ruin waiting to be reborn. Surrounded by ancient Cork-Oaks and Olive trees, and in the company of João, the donkey, a herd of sheep, flocks of birds, and the occasional night bat.

After months of preparation and waiting, it finally became officially ours yesterday. Now begins the adventure, our long journey of restoration. We want to breathe new life into this place while preserving its character. Every beam and stone tells a story, and we’re committed to reusing as much of the original materials as possible, with the help of Joana Andrade, our new friend architect.

As we work under the watchful eyes of these old trees, the magic of the valley keeps us motivated. This place, rich in history and charm, will one day become our home—a sanctuary where dreams can take root and grow.

Hey, a friend has told us about your project. It looks splendid! We're in a similar situation, but on the other side of the border, in Spain (Extremadura, Sierra de Gata). Would be nice to get in touch. I started following you on Instagram (tof_rat), if you follow me back we could exchange messages directly. All the best, guys!
